The Faces Behind the Site

We’re Tom and Carrie Doyle, and this site started as an argument that never really ended.

It began years ago when we couldn’t agree on which decade had better cartoons, which turned into which decade had better everything, which eventually turned into us writing it all down just to prove each other wrong. Tom grew up obsessed with 80s toys and video games. Carrie was deep into 90s pop culture and the golden age of mall shopping. Somewhere in the middle of arguing about it, we realized we both just liked talking about the stuff that shaped us, and figured other people might like reading about it too.

Funny Reign is where that argument lives now, mostly settled into a shared appreciation for nostalgia instead of a competition. We write about the toys, shows, snacks, and everyday products that defined growing up in the 80s and 90s, along with practical guides and product roundups for what people are actually shopping for today. Both sides of the site are really about the same thing: helping people find the good stuff, whether that’s a memory worth revisiting or a purchase worth making.

We live outside Denver with our two kids, who mostly think our nostalgia obsession is hilarious and occasionally embarrassing, which is honestly part of where the site’s name comes from.

Tom

Tom handles most of the retro tech, gaming, and toy content, since he still owns an embarrassing number of original game cartridges and has strong, frequently wrong opinions about which console won the 90s. If an article involves cartoons, arcade games, or anything with a AA battery compartment from thirty years ago, it probably came from him.

Carrie

Carrie covers most of the product guides and lifestyle content, and she’s the one who actually tests what we recommend before it goes on the site. She’s got no patience for products that just look good in a photo, which is why nothing gets published without her sign-off first.

Between the two of us, we try to make sure nothing goes up that we wouldn’t stand behind ourselves.

If you’ve got a correction, a nostalgia topic you want covered, or a product you think we should test, reach out through the contact page. One of us reads it, sometimes both of us argue about the reply first.

This site contains affiliate links. We earn from qualifying purchases on linked products, and we only recommend things we’ve personally tested or genuinely used.
